A. Personal Data

When you engage with our site—whether as a donor, parent, or mentor—we may collect:

Comments & Forms: We collect data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to assist in spam detection.

Contact Information: Name, email address, and phone number.

Donation Data: We collect transaction details for tax-deductible receipting. Note: We do not store credit card numbers on our servers; all payments are processed through secure, third-party encrypted gateways (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, or GiveWP).

Media

If you upload images to the website (such as student work or headshots), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Convenience: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name and email in cookies for one year.

Authentication: If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check browser compatibility (discarded upon closing). Upon login, we set cookies to save login info (2 days) and screen choices (1 year).

As a mentorship program for girls ages 11–17, we take the privacy of minors seriously.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
  • Program registration for minors must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites (like YouTube or Vimeo) behaves as if the visitor has visited the other website and may collect data or use tracking.

Who We Share your Data With

Spam Detection: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Administrative: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Financial Compliance: Shared with payment processors only to finalize donations and prevent fraud.

How long we retain your data

Comments: Retained indefinitely to recognize follow-up comments automatically.

User Profiles: For registered users, we store the personal information provided in their profile indefinitely. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (username changes excepted).

Financial Records: Donation records are kept for a minimum of 7 years to comply with IRS and nonprofit auditing standards.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include data we are obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
